Sugar and carb addiction ARE a real thing. And I’m not talking about apple and zucchini carbs here! I’m talking about the refined, processed carbs in every store shelf and drive-thru bag. This stuff is addicting and it's engineered to be so. Concentrated foods, like flour and sugar, give our brains an unnatural dopamine response so that our brain wants it again and again. It gets confused, thinks we NEED it and sends out cravings which grow stronger the more we eat it. It's a crazy cycle our brain becomes trapped in! In Become HER, we dive deeply into what creates the addiction and how to heal it. It's totally possible!
While only a doctor could officially diagnose an addiction, if you feel like you’re addicted to refined sugar and carb foods, you probably are. Some of the warning signs you’re eating too many refined sugar & processed carbs and could be forming an addiction are:

1. You feel cranky, TIRED or low on energy without your high-carb "pick-me-ups".

2. You have persistent CRAVINGS throughout your day and "feed" them to make them go away.

3. You constantly THINK about these foods and form a "love/hate" relationship with them.

4. You physically don't feel well when you try to CUT BACK or stop eating them...headaches, nausea, irritability, etc.

5. You find yourself losing "control" around certain foods and OVEREATING.

6. You feel ashamed, guilty or embarrassed and HIDE eating these foods.

7. You don't like the way you feel PHYSICALLY or EMOTIONALLY after you eat these foods, but continue to eat them again and again.

Emotional eating is eating in response to positive OR negative emotions. Anytime you eat when you’re not PHYSICALLY hungry, it’s emotional eating. If you find yourself eating when you're upset, anxious, bored, lonely or to AVOID feeling or doing something...it’s emotional eating. If you find yourself "needing" to eat to enjoy an experience (like watching t.v.), it's emotional eating. It's fine to eat just because we want to enjoy the taste of something, but when we're eating to numb emotions or feel better...that's when it can become a problem! The work we do together will help you identify when this is happening and how to change it.
